Unit 2: Identification of bacteria – staining, biochemical tests (IMViC), sterilization methods, sterility indicators, large-scale sterilization equipment. Unit 3: Fungi & viruses, disinfectants, antiseptics, sterility testing of products (IP, BP, USP). Unit 4: Aseptic area design, laminar flow equipment, contamination sources, microbiological assays, standardization of antibiotics, vitamins, amino acids. Unit 5: Microbial spoilage, preservation of pharmaceutical products, microbial stability, animal cell culture and its pharmaceutical applications. |

Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry – II |
Unit 1: Benzene & derivatives – structure, resonance, aromatic character, reactions (nitration, sulphonation, halogenation, Friedel-Crafts). Unit 2: Phenols, aromatic amines & acids – acidity/basicity, substituent effects, qualitative tests, structure and uses. Unit 3: Fats & oils – fatty acids, hydrolysis, hydrogenation, saponification, rancidity, analytical constants. Unit 4: Polynuclear hydrocarbons – synthesis, reactions, medicinal uses (Naphthalene, Phenanthrene, Anthracene, etc.). Unit 5: Cycloalkanes – Baeyer strain theory, modifications, reactions of cyclopropane & cyclobutane. |
